A Great Example of A Terrible Auto Reply

by Jay on May 27, 2009

Here’s an example of what I hate about auto replies:

Thank you for contacting the Investing Group.  We are in receipt of your correspondence and will respond within 72 hours.  If you have not heard from us by then please call us directly toll free at (888) 555-8100.  We look forward to assisting you with your residential or commercial property.

What’s the point of emailing somebody who comes right out and tells you that you might not hear back from them for 3 days, if at all?  And do they think saying 72 hours makes it seem like less time?

You could get a letter to them from across the county in that amount of time!

You’re supposed to email them, sit around counting the hours, and then just call them. But they’re really looking forward to assisting you with your property. I’m not sure what kind of assistance that would be, but with that kind of response time… I hope it’s not property management. If you have a leaking roof, those 72 hours would go by REAL slow.

The email above was the response to their order confirmation for the purchase of Business Plan Pro. I hope they include some better customer service and email response time into the business plan they’re writing!
