Call me crazy, but when I purposefully opt out of an offer to receive email from a company, I assume that means they’re not going to be sending me any email. Is that just me??
I think I know what Barnes & Noble would say. Apparently, they’d say something like this:
“Hey, maybe you forgot to opt in. Or forgot that you opted out. Maybe your finger twitched right when you were about to click the Yes, send me a TON of email button… ”
So, in case any of those are true, Barnes & Noble is now thoughtfully sending email to people to tell them that they’ve chosen to not receive email.
Huh?
When registering for the c0llege bookstore version of the site, the user is presented with this box to check:
Email me sales and events information
The follow-up email B&N sent out to some users says
We’re glad you registered on our site. But you didn’t opt in to receive our emails. Subscribe now to find out…”
So I guess technically, the email is a welcome to their site and a last ditch effort to get you to sign up for their emails. And it’s not about sales and events, rather it’s about how you don’t want to know about sales and events.
Semantics? Yes.
Email Fail? Yes.
